ITS A BIRD

ITS A PLANE

OTHER THAN A CLICHE

ITS ACTUALLY TWO COMETS

This is a 3D interactive program showing the orbits of comets: P/2016 BA14 & 252P/LINEAR. Brought to you by NASA.gov

Comets are made up of frozen dust and rock with a tail of material trailing behind it. Its actually quite rare for comets to be crossing so close to Earth’s orbit (comet P/2016 BA14 at 3.5 million km), making it the third closest flyby of a comet in recorded history, this why there was attention brought to NASA when they noticed not just 1 comet, but TWO!
This close approach was completely safe, and did not interfere or crash land on Earth! Both comets still are further than our moon.  However there is a possibility of a weak meteor shower on March 28th as Earth crosses the dust trail left behind from the comets.

So keep your heads up and eyes alert!
